Ann Coulter + Media = Post Tramatic Torture, Part Duex

Eric Simonson (creator of Hegemonic Discourse & Global Meme Dominance blog) commented on my Ann Coulter + Media = Post Traumatic Terror and a decent conversation ensued through email. I thought I would post the conversation as both of us made our points, agreed on some, disagreed on others, and still managed to respect each other’s opinion.

It began with following comment from Eric:

I’m didn’t see what was so offensive about her comments. No more so than anything says anyway.

To which I replied:

There were two things that I found repulsive:

1.) That widows are enjoying their husband’s deaths. I agree that this was an attack on the nation. These widows paid the ultimate price on a personal level. They speak for all of us that were fortunate enough not to pay that price.

2.) That these women should not use their personal viewpoints in a political arena or for personal fame or wealth. So I guess you have to be to do that. The one woman that has used and her personal gold mine for all three fronts.

BTW - I never said I was a fan of .

Where are you from Eric?

Eric responded with:

Coulter’s comments may be crass, but I don’t think they are any more offensive or hateful than the comments of the Jersey Girls themselves. I detail some of this in this post:
http://www.hegemonic.org/pundit/index.php?id=2159

The Jersey Girls have basically accused Bush of killing their husbands. Isn’t this more offensive than what has said?

“They speak for all of us that were fortunate enough not to pay that price. That these women should not use their personal viewpoints in a political arena or for personal fame or wealth. So I guess you have to be to do that. The one woman that has used and her personal goldmine for all three fronts.”

I disagree. They have every right to express their personal viewpoints.
However they should not be afforded special status as victims out of all proportion to reality. What about the relatives of the other 2,900 or so family members?

I replied:

I’m not sure if saying their husbands were murdered during President watch is the same as saying the President murdered their husbands. I do understand what you are saying about nightly terror bombings did not invoke public wrath against . , however, did not repeatedly use those attacks to pursue or force his own military or political agenda on the citizens nor did he and his cronies make a fortune off of it.

We may never know for a fact if our government was aware or involved in these attacks. I can say that with the technology available today, that was not available for , there is no conceivable way that no one (at some level) knew about this before it happened. The actions of the president and the money his cronies have made as a direct result of definitely support the idea that someone knew.

I don’t think these four widows should have more political sway than any other citizen. Then again, most citizens don’t even vote let alone question what is happening around them. That makes these widows exceptional even if I do not agree with everything they say or do. They have a personal stake in the outcome of everything related to . They were there, they suffered personal losses and now they want answers. And they can’t ask the dead pilots what happened nor are they going to just sit around and accept the media’s perverted version of truthiness.

Now I agree these widows may have said some things that might be considered offensive, but hateful would be if they accused the president of not just watching but also enjoying the 3000 “murders.”

Thanks for responding, feel free to comment on any of my blogs…

To which Eric replied with:

I think you anticipated my next post… Or maybe it was the other way around.

I finished the conversation with:

The Stanley Cup of Blogging Goals

Watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs while perusing the 130 submissions to the blogging goals project, I have compiled a list of my Stanley Cup winners:

For someone that doesn’t sound too enthused about documenting goals, this blogger did a bang up job of articulating them: Is it true I should have blog goals?

If you are gunna dream, then dream big: Buy an Island.

And finally, when all else fails, stoop to great titles: How to pee off your balcony…

Don’t forget to check out my blog goals submission:

iPod Shuffle Review

My best friend gave me an as college graduation gift and it is by far the best gift I have ever received.

Pros:
+ Unlike regular , this gadget charges while connected to a USB port. So it charges while you are adding songs and arranging playlists. How cool is that? I have a cell phone charger, my laptop, a light, and a printer all plugged in near my desk; not having find another outlet for my or buy and extra charger for work is a feature I am surprised other MP3 players have not latched onto.

+ The charge lasts up to 12 hours. I definitely get 12 hours and I’ve had it and used it regularly for over a year without any noticable reduction in charge time.

+ definitely takes the cake in customer service. When I first opened my , it would not work. I thought it was something I did wrong so I read the manual cover to cover and still could not figure out how to get it charged or how to transfer songs to it. I went to the Apple website and found a live support chat at 2am! The very next day, I got a brand new iPod Shuffle delivered next day air rush delivery. The return envelope was pre-addressed and pre-paid. Doesn’t get any better than that.

+ The is so small and light (about the size of a pack of gum), it easily fits in the smallest of pockets (the normal feel like a cell phone in your pocket). Just be sure not to wash the which is easily done because its so small you can forget to take it out of your pocket before washing. Included is a cap that converts the into a lanyard making it perfect for all the ladies that don’t have pockets on their workout clothes.

Although the regular has a few more features and more storage space, working out with a regular is like working out with a cell phone in your pocket or worse carrying it. The , however is not even noticeable while working out you literally forget you have it on.

+ The can also be used as a USB thumbdrive allowing you to save files on it and transfer it to another PC.

Cons:
- You will need to install to manage the song list on the . This would not be a problem except if you try to load songs from another PC with you lose all the songs you already had on it. I think this is Apple’s way of saying don’t use this to transfer songs from one PC to another.

- The does not have a display on the unit. Your options are Rewind , Fast Forward, Volume Up, Volume Down, Play/Pause, On/Off/Shuffle. You will need to memorize your playlist to be able find a specific song. I personally don’t find this as a problem because I never stop working out to look for a song. I just don’t put songs on it that I don’t like and let it shuffle through them. I listed this as a con because most other MP3 players have some form of display.

- I found the headphones to be uncomfortable. I felt like my ears were bruised from them so I bought a regular pair of headphones for instead. I think the headphones should come with ear piece size choices.

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
