Thanks. I just completely disagree with the assertion that the media spun anything. If anything was spun, it seems to be that Democrats were involved, too. The people they came down hard on were Foley (of course), Hastert, and Reynolds in NY, the last two all clearly knowing of Foley’s action beforehand and burying the story. If you have other examples of all Republicans being smeared, I’d love to see it, and in that instance I would 100 percent agree with you.

I concede and there does not, at this point, appear to be any democratic involvement (the Washington spin machine would have had a feild day with it). I suppose I am a bit synical in that I do think that members of congress would cover something up, not to protect their opposers, but because they have skeletons in their closet that they don’t want discovered.

As far as the media is concerened, there is a difference between news and propaganda. News is broadcasting events and the people involved. The Foley story became propaganda when the media decided to set up a smear campaign against the republican party deliberately insinuating that ALL republicans were involved and should be ousted.

That is like saying that all Catholic preists are involved in a cover up for child molesters and should be replaced with baptist ministers.

Honestly, if the media could deliver the facts without branding everything, we could as individual make several distinctions on our own including the ones you have stated: the republicans as a whole have not been bi-partisan while they controlled congress. Now look at em dance.

I am sorry if I came accross as pro-republican. I am not defending anything they did or covered up. This post was simply a reflection of my frustration with politics and the media in general.

“Don’t tell me Democrats did not know”

I will tell you that because it’s true, and, until I see any evidence to the contrary, I will continue to believe it. (I’m a stickler for facts like that.) The matter was supposedly brought before the laughably-named “Bipartisan Congressional Page Committee,” which has one Democratic member, although he denies hearing about it. It WAS brought to the attention of the House leadership, which is entirely Republican, and this has never been denied. Rather than deal with it, they shoved it under the rug. Any assertion that Democrats would sit on that information if they had it is absurd, especially in an election cycle. Had they known, don’t you think they would have brought it up in 2004, when it might have helped their chances? I sure as hell would have. So why would they have kept it secret? To protect an opposition member? Get real. You really need to do some looking into how the Republicans have run Washington for the last six years, from the K Street Project, specifically designed to remove all Democrats from lobbying (look where that got us) to congressional committees even locking Democrats out of meetings. There has been nothing bipartisan about this administration, not even their scandals.

That a Congressman is sexually harrassing young boys is news. That is the point of the media: to report news. Your argument is silly: you fault Democrats for supposedly holding on to the information and yet you also fault the media for releasing it? Am I missing something there?
