Dear Senator Clinton,
It is indefensible that there was not immediate food, water, and medical supplies air dropped to the survivors. Air drops were carried out in Indonesia within two days of the tsunami. There was three days to prepare air-drops before Katrina even hit and yet here we are, 5 days afterward, and this basic, common sense form of relief has yet to materialize. Are we to conclude that third world countries are better equipped to handle emergencies?
If 9/11 made me realize how vulnerable the United State is to those that would harm us, Katrina has made me realize how naive we are about our government’s ability to protect us. Terrorists the world over must be rejoicing in the idea that our government is not prepared, or is unwilling to respond to crisis.
This government of the people, by the people, for the people seems little more than an empty promise. An illusion, spun every four years, so that those in power may proclaim to have been graced with power by the majority. If the majority does not vote, the majority did not prevail. I am a voting citizen but I do not feel represented by those in power. As an American, I bear the taxes and economic expense of a president’s that uses the military as his personal oil-mongering mercenaries. I bear the hatred for the audacity of a president that interferes with other nation’s sovereignty.
I am proud to vote for you, a candidate that I believe will stand up to the executive branch of the government, thereby performing the checks and balances for which the legislative branch was designed. I hope that I will be able to vote for you in a presidential election, however, the privilege of participating in the election process is only an appeal if the elected officials represent the sentiment of its constituents. I am shocked and appalled that you and the other elected representatives have not used your political voice reflect the outrage of American citizens:
Someone must be held accountable for the delayed relief efforts. AMERICANS ARE DYING!!!
Sincerely,
Christina Nenno
